Tres Bourbonnais (pronounced “Tre Bor-bo-nay)
Debut album-“ Rêves: Dreams Come True” (pronounced “rrrev”)
Take equal parts Marcia Ball and Diana Krall, add a splash of Sade and a twist of Bonnie Raitt. Mix well and enjoy. That’s the recipe for the musical cocktail that is Tres Bourbonnais.
Native Texan and UT bred pianist/singer Sharon Bourbonnais is the group’s centerpiece. She honed her performing skills genre-hopping in bands throughout south and central Texas; most notably the reggae flavored Irie Jane in the early nineties. Sharon found herself feeling increasingly restless and sought a change of scenery in Hawaii. There she refocused on songwriting and continued playing with like-minded island musicians.
Ultimately the Dallas-born Sharon decided to return to her beloved Austin and record her debut album. She put together a group of players including Mark Wilson (Hector Ward & the Bigtime, Shinyribs) on sax and flute and bassist Eric Leikam. They took the songs into George Oldziey’s Greenhaven Studio in Austin. The record includes Kevin Hall on drums and features guest appearances by guitarist Albert Besteiro (Del Castillo), guitarist Kyle Judd (Deann Rene Band, Shelley King), and Suzy Stern on backup vocals. Other amazing performances by special guests include Dr. John Mills (Times Ten) on clarinet on the song “Fou de Toi”, and Javier Chaparro (El Salud) on violin on the song “Love Is An Oasis”.
Fresh off two successful CD release shows, a private house concert and the Cactus Cafe, the CD album Rêves: Dreams Come True, is creating a nice buzz in Austin music circles..“Great vibe”, “crosses genre’s effortlessly”, “sultry, sweet vocals”, ”clever yet, meaningful lyrics” and “seductive songstress”, describe Sharon Bourbonnais.
